Challenge Process: User Guide
Effective date: 29-Sep-2026
1 About this guide
This guide explains, step by step, how to challenge LEI data that you believe is wrong or incomplete. The rules that apply to every challenge, including time limits, how the Legal Entity is involved and what happens after a decision, are in the TNV-LEI Challenge Policy at www.tnvlei.com/challenge-policy. If this guide and the Challenge Policy differ, the Challenge Policy applies.
Anyone may raise a challenge. You do not need an account with TNV-LEI.
2 Before you start
2.1 Is it your own LEI?
If the LEI belongs to your own organization and you are its authorized representative, you do not need to raise a challenge. Sign in at app.tnvlei.com and request an update to your data. Updates requested by the Legal Entity are free of charge. See Section 8.1 of the General Terms and Conditions.
2.2 Is the LEI managed by TNV-LEI?
TNV-LEI handles challenges only for LEIs it manages. To check, look up the LEI at search.gleif.org and see the managing LOU shown on the record. If another LOU manages the LEI, raise the challenge through GLEIF's LEI Search, which sends it to the right LOU, or contact that LOU directly.
2.3 Gather your evidence
Have ready the correct value for each field you are challenging, if you know it, and a document that supports it, for example an extract from the official business register, a filed company document or, for parent information, an audited consolidated financial statement. Evidence in a language other than English should come with a translation. If you do not know the correct value, you can still raise a challenge: explain why you believe the data is wrong and give whatever evidence you have.
3 Option A: through GLEIF's LEI Search
• Go to search.gleif.org and find the LEI record.
• Choose the option to challenge the record.
• Register or sign in with your email address and confirm it using the link GLEIF sends you.
• Select what you are challenging, enter the correct value if you know it, or a comment explaining the suspected error, and attach or link your evidence.
• Submit. GLEIF confirms the challenge and gives you a challenge ID, and forwards the challenge to TNV-LEI.
You can follow the status of your challenge in GLEIF's facility, and GLEIF emails you when it is closed.
4 Option B: directly with TNV-LEI
• Email challenge@tnvlei.com, or use the challenge facility on the TNV-LEI dashboard if you are signed in.
• State the LEI, the field or fields you are challenging, the value you believe is correct (if known) or an explanation of the suspected error, and your contact email.
• Attach your evidence. PDF, JPEG, PNG, DOCX and XLSX files are accepted, up to 10 MB each.
TNV-LEI acknowledges your challenge within one LOU business day (Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays observed by TNV-LEI in Uttar Pradesh, India) and gives you a reference number. Please quote it in any follow-up.
5 What happens next
TNV-LEI checks your evidence against the official sources for the entity's jurisdiction and informs the Legal Entity. If more information is needed, TNV-LEI emails you and tells you the date by which it is needed.
You receive a substantive response within the GLEIF service levels: a target of 15 calendar days and no more than 25 calendar days, counted from the day TNV-LEI receives the challenge. A request for more information does not stop the clock. If the challenge is upheld, the LEI record is corrected and published. If it is not upheld, you are told why.
6 If you disagree with the outcome
You may raise a new challenge with further evidence. For challenges raised through GLEIF's LEI Search, GLEIF's re-submit option is available within 28 days after the challenge is closed, and you may also give feedback on the resolution in the same period.
Complaints about how TNV-LEI handled your challenge may be sent to support@tnvlei.com. TNV-LEI replies within 30 calendar days.
