Part of the United States LEI knowledge hub — back to the United States pillar.
A U.S. FinTech or payment company may need an LEI when its legal entity is involved in regulated reporting, partner-bank onboarding, institutional counterparty checks or a payment workflow that uses standardized entity identification. An LEI is not automatically required for every FinTech license or software business.
A FinTech may be asked for an LEI when a specific regulated activity, financial transaction, reporting obligation, bank partnership or institutional onboarding process requires the legal entity to be identified. Confirm the requesting institution, relevant legal entity and exact business workflow before applying.
A FinTech group may include a technology company, regulated operating company, payment subsidiary and holding company. Use the LEI of the legal entity that signs the agreement, holds the license, enters the transaction or appears in the reporting workflow. A parent-company LEI does not automatically identify a separate subsidiary.
Search the exact legal company name before applying. Confirm which group company needs the LEI and whether an existing record requires renewal, transfer or data correction instead of a new application.

Fast-Track LEI issuance in 2 to 4 UK working hours is available subject to data completeness, applicant authority, and successful compliance validation. Transfers from another GLEIF-accredited LOU are free.
Not automatically. An early-stage FinTech should obtain an LEI when a bank, regulator, counterparty, reporting system or transaction requires its legal entity to be identified.
One legal entity uses the same global LEI across supported markets. However, separate regulated subsidiaries, payment companies or other legally distinct group entities may require their own LEIs.
Fast-Track processing may complete within 2–4 UK working hours when the application is complete, the applicant is authorized and the company information can be successfully validated.
