An LEI Number helps UK exporters support trade-finance KYC, bank onboarding and certain cross-border payments. It gives banks and overseas counterparties a reliable way to verify the exporter’s legal identity, even where an LEI is not legally required.
UK exporters may use an LEI during bank KYC for trade-finance facilities, in certain ISO 20022 cross-border payment messages, and when overseas banks or counterparties need to identify the legal entity behind a transaction.
Even where an LEI is not legally required, a current record can give banks, overseas buyers and financial counterparties a consistent way to verify the exporter’s legal name, registered address and entity status.
Fast-Track LEI issuance in 2 to 4 UK working hours is available subject to data completeness, applicant authority and successful compliance validation.

It gives banks and overseas counterparties a standard way to check the exporter’s legal name, registered address and entity status.
Yes. The same legal entity uses one LEI across countries and financial markets, provided the record remains current.
No. An EORI number is used for customs and the movement of goods, while an LEI identifies a legal entity in financial transactions and certain banking or payment processes.
